10 March 2014 - Community Meetings Coming Up

Initial community meetings to be held March 19th & 20th

Your ideas and input about our transit system are important! MTD is now planning for service changes to be implemented in August 2014. Among other changes, the Board will again consider eliminating Line 22 due to continued low ridership. These meetings are an opportunity to join the conversation.

MTD Observes Presidents' Day - 17 February2014

Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District (MTD) will observe Presidents' Day on Monday, February 17th by running Saturday service. The Transit Center will be open from 8am to 6pm and MTD's administrative offices will be closed.

Note that SBCC & many local schools observe Lincoln's birthday on Friday, February 14th. Line 15x will run limited sevice and Line 16 will not run that day. See Holiday/School Service page for more.

MTD Honors MLK - 20 January 2014

Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District (MTD) will observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day on Monday, January 20th by running Saturday service. The Transit Center will be open from 8am to 6pm and MTD's administrative offices will be closed.

MTD Holiday Service- 18 December 2013

MTD will operate Sunday service on Tuesday, December 24th and NO SERVICE on December 25th. On Tuesday, December 31st, MTD will run Saturday service, and on January 1st, buses will run on Sunday service. During UCSB & SBCC winter breaks, Lines 24x & 27 run less frequently and Lines 15x & 16 do not run.  Lines 24x & 27 resume normal service, and Line 15x resumes limited service on January 6th. Lines 15x & 16 resume full service on January 27th.

Alert - 2 November 2013

MTD Waterfront Shuttle will run on Alternate Route

During the Open Streets event on Saturday, November 2, 2013, MTD Routes 14 & 20 will detour onto Hwy 101 between Milpas & HotSprings. The Waterfront Shuttle will operate on an alternate route.

MTD anticipates receipt of the 2012/2013 $4.6 million in Federal 5307 operating assistance and therefore does not expect to implement the emergency service reductions. The Transit Talk previously scheduled for September 10th has been canceled.

4 September 2013 - Governor Proposes Temporary PEPRA Exemption for Transit Workers

MTD does not expect to implement emergency service reductions

A press release issued by Governor Brown’s office today indicated that legislation will be proposed to temporarily exempt local agencies’ transit workers from the California Public Employees’ Pension Reform Act of 2013 (PEPRA), but preserves the state’s ability to fight for the pension reform law in court.

Service Disruptions LIKELY During Halloween Festivities

MTD bus service will be suspended in Isla Vista if/when it becomes unsafe to travel the streets of the area during the Halloween festivites. Routes in other areas may also experience service delays due to heavy passenger loads. Please call MTD Customer Service at 805-963-3366 for more information.

Board Now Accepting Applications - Deadline Extended!

Brian Fahnestock has resigned after 9 years of service on MTD's Board of Directors. The Board is now accepting applications from members of the community who are interested in filling the vacant position. To apply, submit your résumé and the supplemental questionnaire to MTD.

The biggest changes are to Lines 6, 11, 23 & 25 (1.5MB PDF) and to Lines 1 & 2 (603KB PDF), although there are additional small changes throughout MTD's system. Pick up or download (12.5MB) a copy of the new Schedule Guide for details!

Effective August 27, 2012, VISTA Coastal Express and Coastal Express Limited Passengers with a valid transfer will pay $1.00 to ride MTD buses.

MTD's Coastal Express Limited Not Affected by Bankruptcy

VISTA bus riders may soon encounter some service disruptions arising from sevice contractor Coach USA's recently announced bankruptcy. MTD is offering assistance to VCTC to reduce the loss of passenger service, but no definite plans are in place yet.

Shuttle Fares increasing, Crosstown & Commuter Shuttle Services Cut

Service Reductions & Fare Increases Necessary

With the State’s elimination of Redevelopment Agencies, the financial support for the Downtown-Waterfront Shuttle, the Crosstown Shuttle, and the Commuter Lot Shuttle services that the City of Santa Barbara has provided for many years is no longer available. Seaside Shuttle fares have been increased as well.

Service Reductions & Fare Increases Likely

The State’s elimination of Redevelopment Agencies jeopardizes the financial support for our shuttle services that the City of Santa Barbara has provided for many years. Without this funding, MTD will find it necessary to reduce or eliminate some services & raise fares on others.

Coastal Express Limited Route & Schedule Changes - March 2012

Limited service changes take effect on March 26, 2012

In response to passenger feedback, MTD is adjusting the routes and schedules for its Coastal Express Limited commuter service from Ventura to Santa Barbara and Goleta. Changes will be in effect on Monday, March 26, 2012.
